Tehran to host exhibition on metal industry

TEHRAN, Oct. 25 (MNA) – Tehran will host the 2nd Int'l Exhibition of Metal Rod Industries, Cables and Wire, Tube & Related Machinery, December 14-17 2014.

The second exhibition will bring together the most famous domestic and international companies in Tehran International Permanent Fairground. The exhibition is the only such venue in the Middle East to display the latest products, services and equipment in metal industries.

Manufacturing machinery for wires and cable, raw material (aluminum, copper, steel wire, etc.), insulators, measuring equipment, quality control equipment, and related components (lubricants and pulleys), packaging, different wire type (copper, aluminum and steel), profiles, wire and cable manufacturing machinery, and related industries will be displayed in the exhibition.

Ali Shalbaf, head of exhibition headquarters said that the exhibition would be held in an area of 10,000 square meters. “In addition to domestic companies, foreign companies from Germany, Turkey, India and China will definitely attend,” he added.

“The exhibition seeks to bring the country’s capabilities in wire industries, potential and actual, to international scene, address weaknesses and barriers, elicit public and private support to the industry, providing grounds for investors, employment and entrepreneurship, bring the world latest technologies and innovations in wire industries to domestic managers, create a healthy competitive atmosphere among domestic manufacturers to improve product quality as its most important objectives,” Shalbaf said.

He added that only Ukraine, Russia, the US, Turkey, Germany, Japan, France and the UK held international wire exhibition, and Iran was the first in the Middle East in its kind, which he believed, indicated the country’s improved situation in wire industries.

The first wire and cable products were manufactured in 1965 by ICO, then a joint venture by Iran and Sweden. “Now, however, several companies are active in industry; figures show that more than 179 manufacturers produce about 320,000 tons of wire and cable, 20 per cent of which is exported,” he said.

The industry, reportedly, creates jobs for more than 50,000 people. In 2013, Islamic Republic of Iran was the first and greatest manufacturer of unprocessed steel with 15.4 million tons of production, with a growth of 6.6 per cent compared to that in the year before; this growth translated into growth in downstream industries such as profile and wire, which exported the surplus to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Iran has more than 14 million tons of copper (3 per cent) reserves out of world estimated 470 million tons, standing in 12th place in the world and fourth in Asia.

Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are serious rivals for Iran in terms of technology and investments in wire industry. Their only advantage is lower finished price over Iran’s domestic manufacturers.
